Makwena Makgwane

Makwena Makgwane (nee Komape), is the Executive Manager: Business Enablement at Kusile Project, one of Eskom’s mega projects in Mpumalanga. She holds a Bsc Information Technology degree from the University of Pretoria (2002) and currently studying towards a Master of Business in Leadership (MBL) at UNISA. She has been working for Eskom since 2004 and have held various roles to date. She pursued various management development training courses to prepare her for various managerial roles.
She was born and bred in Early Dawn Farm (Makgabeng) in Limpopo and is the youngest of 4 children to Mr Kenneth and Mrs Annah Komape. She has been a grateful wife to Masekgonyana Makgwane since 2003 and have both been blessed with two children, Sehlope (20) and Kgabo (17). Her career versatility has been key to her growth both as a person and a professional.
She is a living product and has been a stalwart member of the Eskom Women Advancement Program for the past nine years. Over that time, she has served in multiple leadership positions: Information Management Manager, Documentation and Records Manager, Accommodation Manager, Middle Manager Project Services and Executive Manager Business Enablement at various Eskom sites just to name a few.
Her passionate dedication to promoting development of young women into leadership positions has contributed to Eskom’s goal to increasing representation of women in leadership positions and changing the perceptions of and about women that perpetuate misrepresentation of women in leadership and technical roles. It is estimated that she has personally mentored, coached and developed at least 100 young women professionals and has set an extraordinary “YES, YOU CAN DO IT” example for many more aspiring female leaders.
We see her as capable, confident, and fluent: never at a loss for words. What you probably don’t know is that this woman is a multi-award winner at Eskom and a Co-Author of a national bestselling book with other 31 professionals. How she got from being a village girl from Makgabeng to becoming an Executive in Eskom’s multi-billion-rand mega project, is the story she will share with us in the future, in her upcoming memoir to be published in 2024, titled “Embracing the path less taken: My 20 years journey in Eskom”
